Do you belong with Koltiva?

The key responsibility of the Agronomy Specialist is to develop agriculture related content and surveys for Koltiva applications, develop manuals and SOP, provide capacity building for Koltiva staff, as well as trainings for Koltiva clients and partners staff, analyze agriculture related data quality and improve data insights. The Agronomy Specialist conducts research on various agronomy-related topics to strengthen Koltiva knowledge of crops, agronomy and sustainability practices, and voluntary certification standards.

Reporting and Collaboration

The Agronomy Specialist reports to the Head of Agriculture R&D unit.

The Agronomy Specialist works closely with the Head of Agriculture R&ampD and other R&D unit members. The Agronomy Specialist cooperates with various teams, including the Project Implementation, the Product Development, and the Technology and Software Development departments.

Duty Station

The position is based in Jakarta with project monitoring visits to Sulawesi, Sumatra, Kalimantan and other Koltiva working areas as needed. Field and business trips may represent 20% of time allocated.

What are the key responsibilities of the Agronomy Specialist ?

Responsibilities and Duties

Specific responsibilities of the Agronomy Specialist include:

Research:

  • Research and knowledge sharing on specific requirements for various certification standards (RSPO, ISPO, and others).
  • Expand company and client understanding of sustainable estate crops cultivation with focus on oil palm, including but not limited to following topics:
    • Sustainable agriculture production and good agricultural practices
    • Carbon sequestration and GHG emissions
    • Responses to plant disease and pest threats and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
    • Broader environment and deforestation topics
    • Responsible Sourcing and Traceability from farm to fork
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Koltiva agri-tech solutions through research and coordination with various departments.
  • Participate in internal and external working-groups and meetings. External events can include supply-chain audits, seminars, and conferences, professional organization and institutions, customer meetings.

Field Visits and Capacity Building:

  • Conduct field visits to monitor and evaluate the capacity of Koltiva program staff to implement internal audits and farmer training activities.
  • Develop tests, quizzes, and other online staff evaluation tools.
  • Create training modules and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Implementation Unit to review existing and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sustainability program implementation.
  • Deliver training to program implementation staff related to proper data collection and evaluation practices and improve data collection processes.

Analytics:

  • Analyze agronomy and supplier data to help make data-driven decisions and identify actionable insights in relation to agricultural practices and sustainability approaches.
  • Evaluate existing agronomy data and coordinate with the Data Support and Implementation Teams with data quality improvement and data corrections.
  • Help to identify where improvements are needed in the data review process.

App Support:

  • Help to test and review new apps with focus on agronomy data calculations, question rules and parameters.
  • Coordinate with the Development and QA teams on app improvement and requirement clarification.
